Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif
Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is political leader and businessman of Pakistan who ruled as Prime Minister of Pakistan for 3 times. He was born on the 25th of December, 1949 in Sharif family. Nawaz Sharif is the longest time of terms Prime Minister of Pakistan and he has been in office of Prime Minister for more than nine years. Nawaz Sharif is the son of Muhammad Sharif, the owner of Ittefaq and the Sharif Group, and was born into a top Sharif family in Lahore. He is the older brother of Shehbaz Sharif, who also ruled as Punjab’s chief minister. According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Nawaz Sharif is one of the richest men of the country. He has a total wealth of at about USD $1.6 billion. His steel construction firms account for the majority of his wealth.
Nawaz Sharif studied at Government College and law at the University of Punjab before entering political activities in the mid-1980s. President Zia selected Nawaz as the province Finance Minister of Punjab in 1981. Nawaz was appointed Chief Minister of Punjab in 1985 and re-elected following the end of martial control in 1988, backed by a loose coalition of fundamentalists. In 1990, Nawaz Sharif led the moderate Islamic Democratic Alliance to become 12th Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Nawaz Sharif married Kalsoom, who is a Kashmiri woman. Shehbaz Sharif, his brother, selected 4 times as Chief Minister of Punjab and now,he is the leader of the opposition in National Assembly of Pakistan, while Hamza Shahbaz Sharif, his nephew, is the current Leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Provincial Assembly of Punjab. The daughter Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz is also involved in political activities
Nawaz Sharif acted as the opposition leader to government Benazir Bhutto from 1993 to 1996 after being dismissed in 1993 when President Ghulam Ishaq Khan dismissed the National Assembly. He was investigated in a plane hijacking incident by Barrister Ijaz Husain, conduct by senior Advocate Khawaja Sultan, Advocate Sher Afghan Asdi and Advocate Akhtar Aly Kureshy. After the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML-N) was established in 1997. He ruled until his dismissal in 1999 by military takeover. He returned to politics in 2011 after some more than a decade in prison and exile, and led his party to win for the 3rd time in 2013.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan dismissed Nawaz from office in 2017 following findings from the Panama Papers investigation. In 2018, the Pakistani Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz from holding public office, and an accountability court condemned him to 10 years in prison. Nawaz is in London for medical treatment on cancelled bail as of 2021.
