The international community will not tolerate an Afghan government imposed by force: US State Department
WASHINGTON: (Monitoring Desk) US State Department has warned the Taliban that imposing a government on Afghanistan by force will not be accepted by the international community. Ned Price, a spokesperson for the US State Department, told reporters on Monday that any Afghan administration must have the support of the people in order to have legality, help, and a popular mandate within the country.
He also made international backing conditional on a fair and democratic peace solution in Afghanistan. He was answering questions about the situation in Afghanistan, the rise in violence, the presence of US envoy Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad, and his support for the ANDSF.
We continue to call for a halt to the continued violence, Price added. We know that the Taliban is mostly to blame for the carnage. We believe that a peaceful resolution between the Islamic Republic and the Taliban is the only way to put an end to 40 years of conflict in Afghanistan and, more significantly, to deliver the people of Afghanistan the protection, security, and peace that they seek.
In response to the recent spike in violence, a State Department official ruled out the possibility of a government being imposed by force, saying, The world would not tolerate the establishment of a government in Afghanistan by force.
He stated that any Afghan administration’s legitimacy, help, and public mandate are only achievable if that government has the people’s backing. Furthermore, he stated that the fundamental and basic respect for human life is non-negotiable for the United States and international society.
Regarding Ambassador Khalilzad’s mission, the spokeswoman stated that he will encourage all sides to participate in serious negotiations, to define that political road-map for an Afghanistan future that leads to a just and permanent solution. Both are really essential to us.
Price responded to another question by saying that the Afghan National Security Forces will continue to be supported as they shift and develop over time. But, while we support diplomacy in search of a just and permanent political settlement, our relationship with the Afghan people and leaders will never alter.
US state department and our friends and partnerships think that any government that comes to power in Afghanistan will need not inconsequential help from the international community, united States State Department spokesperson said in reply to some other question.
