Social media platforms are closed until 3 PM in Pakistan
ISLAMABAD (Monitoring Desk) ISLAMABAD According to the Interior Ministry, the government has agreed to shut down social media sites in the country from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been guided to block the services of Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, Telegram, and Twitter in the region, according to the ministry.
On the 16th of April 2021, full access to social media sites (Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube, and Telegram) across the country may be prohibited from 1100 hours to 1500 hours,” read the ministry’s notification to chairman PTA. Access to some social media applications has been temporarily limited in order to preserve public order and protection, according to PTA sources.
The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has barred all television and radio licensees from airing coverage of the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). PEMRA’s announcement came after the Ministry of Interior declared the TLP a banned organisation for committing acts of terrorism and behaving in a manner that jeopardized the country’s stability and security during its recent three-day nationwide protests.
